Psychosomatic Clinic in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Jakarta, Indonesia, has been established and active since 1950, initiated by Professor Aulia Yahya, MD, Internist, who was Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) / RSCM. At that time, many patients with functional disorders and also exacerbation of chronic diseases related to the psychosocial problems that need psychosomatic approach.
Psychosomatic Clinic in 1960 became Psychosomatic Division and more active in psychosomatic education and research beside eclectic and holistic care and services to psychosomatic disorders.
For approximately 30 years, psychosomatic in Indonesia has been in ups and downs. This situation may be related to the progress of medical technology and sub specialty in the field of Internal Medicine as well as in other fields.
E Mudjaddid, MD, Internist, and H Shatri, MD, Internist, tried to continue and develop the field of psychosomatic in Jakarta and in other provinces in Indonesia since 1996.
E. Mudjaddid MD, Internist, H. Shatri, MD, Internist, Richard B, MD, Psychiatrist and Danardi, MD, Psychiatrist, after following the 14th World Congress on Psychosomatic Medicine in Cairn Australia in 1997, established the Indonesian Society of Psychosomatic Medicine (ISPiM) in 2000. The member include neurologist, dermatologist, gynecologist, pediatricst, etc, and supported by the National Congress of The Indonesian Society of Internal Medicine in Surabaya.
Actively, ISPiM performed scientific meetings, seminars and psychosomatic road shows in Jakarta and in other regions in Indonesia. That’s encourage group of Psychosomatic interest in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Medan (North Sumatra), Padang (West Sumatra) and Palembang (South Sumatra). Over the years, members of ISPiM always participate in regional and international events such as the Asian College of Psychosomatic Medicine (ACPM) and International College on Psychosomatic Medicine (ICPM) activity. Then in 2010 , ISPiM organized First National Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Society of Psychosomatic Medicine in Jakarta lead by R. Putranto, MD, Internist. The 2nd National Scientific Meeting in 2012. In 2014, ISPiM became host of regional scientific meetings: The 16th Congress of Asian College of Psychosomatic Medicine in conjunction with 3rd National Meeting of Indonesian Society of Psychosomatic Medicine held in Jakarta. The next 4th National Meeting of Indonesian Society of Psychosomatic Medicine will be held in Padang, West Sumatra, 2016.
In the future, it is expected that ISPiM will cooperate with ACPM and ICPM for the progress of Psychosomatic Medicine.
